March Madness: National championship-winning coach predicts Auburn to win NCAA tournament

Not only did the SEC set a record for number of teams in the NCAA Tournament, but, if Jay Wright’s prediction is correct, the league will also have a team crowned national champion.

CBS analyst Jay Wright, a former NCAA tournament national championship winning coach at Villanova, is going with Bruce Pearl’s Auburn Tigers to win the tournament.

“I have the Auburn Tigers starting and finishing the season as national champs,” he said during the CBS broadcast.

Wright has Auburn, the No. 1 overall seed, coming out of the South bracket to face Houston, the Midwest representative, in the championship.

He also has Duke, from the East bracket, and St. John’s, from the West bracket, advancing the Final Four.

The Auburn Tigers, led by SEC player of the year Johni Broome, were chosen as the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA tournament on Sunday.

Auburn (28-5) will be the top seed in the South Region and will face the Alabama State-St. Francis winner in Thursday’s first round in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Tigers lost three of their last four games, including a 70-65 loss to Tennessee in the semifinals of the SEC tournament on Saturday.

However, Auburn finished 16-5 in Quad 1 games this season and 6-0 in Quad 2 games to earn the No. 1 overall seed.
