The committee has selected the field of 68 teams that are dancing for March Madness in the NCAA Tournament. But before the games tip off, let’s take a look at the squads on upset alert.

Where to bet on March Madness:

Without further ado, here are the teams that could ruin some brackets in round one of the NCAA Tournament.

March Madness first round upset pick: #10 Utah State vs. #7 Missouri

Game information: Thursday, March 16 in Sacramento, California | 1:20 p.m. EST | TNT

Despite Missouri receiving the better seed, Utah State is listed as 2-point favorites. It’s rare that the team with a more favorable seed doesn’t get backing from the oddsmakers.

Utah State is coming off a loss to San Diego State in the Mountain West tournament, but don’t let that worry you. The Aggies were on a seven-game win streak before falling short to the Aztecs.

Utah State has been one of the most efficient three-point shooting teams in the nation. The Aggies ranked 23rd in threes made, and fifth in three point percentage.

March Madness first round upset pick: #16 Northern Kentucky vs. #1 Houston

Game information: Thursday, March 16 in Birmingham, Alabama | 9:15 p.m. | TNT

We get it, it’s hard putting faith into a 16 seed to advance to the round of 32. And for good reason, considering it’s only happened once in NCAA Tournament history.

But Houston G Marcus Sasser suffered a hamstring injury in the AAC tournament semifinals. Sasser, who leads the Cougars with 17 points per game, was forced to sit in the title game and Houston came up short; the team’s first loss since January 22.

Sasser told the media he’ll be 100% by game time, but who knows if that’ll really be the case.

On the other side, Northern Kentucky is fresh off a Horizon League tournament victory and riding a five-game win streak. The Norse are 19.5-point favorites, and feature juicy +1600 moneyline odds.

March Madness first round upset pick: #12 Charleston vs. #5 San Diego State

Game information: Thursday, March 16 in Orlando, Florida | 3 p.m. EST | TruTV

Oftentimes when fans create brackets, their attention turns to the 12 vs. 5 matchups when picking an upset. That’s because since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, a 5 seed has been upset in all but four seasons.

College of Charleston has those that trend in its corner, plus they went 27-3 in the regular season before winning the CAA tournament. Charleston’s last loss came on February 2.

Knocking off the Mountain West-champion Aztecs won’t be easy. But the line opened with SDSU as 5.5-point favorites; meaning the oddsmakers aren’t predicting a blowout.

March Madness first round upset pick: #13 Iona vs. #4 UConn

Game information: Friday, March 17 in Albany, New York | 4:30 p.m. EST | TBS

Iona is streaking right now under veteran head coach Rick Pitino. The Gaels have won their last 15 games, with the squads most recent defeat coming on January 27.

Another reason to feel good about Iona is their team-oriented offensive attack. The Gaels have three players averaging 15+ points per game in G Walter Clayton Jr., G Daniss Jenkins and F Nelly Junior Joseph.

Iona doesn’t sleep on defense, either. As a team, the New York-based school averaged 5.5 blocks per game; the fourth-highest mark in the nation.

The bookies don’t have much faith in the Gaels, as the Huskies are 9-point favorites. But we’ve seen the sportsbooks get it wrong plenty of times.

March Madness first round upset pick: #13 Kent State vs. #4 Indiana

Game information: Friday, March 17 in Albany, New York | 9:55 p.m. EST |TBS

This matchup showcases a Kent State team on the rise, while Indiana has been inconsistent as of late. The Golden Flashes are 10-1 in their previous 11 games, won the MAC tournament and scored 70+ points in each postseason game.

Meanwhile, the Hoosiers are 4-4 in their last eight games. Indiana lost in the Big Ten tournament semifinals to 10 seed Penn State.

Plus, Kent State G Sincere Carry is getting hot at the right time. The Duquesne transfer averaged 23.7 points in the MAC tournament. Sometimes in March, you just need one player to catch heat to carry the squad to round two.

The line opened with Indiana as 4.5-point favorites. Who’d have thought a blue blood like the Hoosiers wouldn’t command a larger spread over a MAC team?
