The storms may bring marble-sized hail (0.5 inches) and wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

“At 4:29 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm 8 miles southeast of Brantley, or 8 miles north of Elba, moving northeast at 25 mph,” according to the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.”

Locations impacted by the alert include Lee, Pine Level, Chestnut Grove, Lowry Mill, Wilkinstown, Bluff Spring, Zoar, Jack and Newby.

According to the weather service, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
