Many Alabama license offices closed Friday, Dec. 8; vehicle titles unavailable through Dec. 10

A software system update at the Alabama Department of Revenue will necessitate the closure of some state licensing offices later this week with online services remaining unavailable through the weekend.

ALDOR is transitioning to a new motor vehicle and vessel software system, the Alabama Vehicle Information Network, or ALVIN. The transition will make some services unavailable from Dec. 8-10., including online web-based license transactions, license office ATM functions, Mandatory Liability Insurance inquiries and personalized tag inquiries.

State offices will be open to handle driver license transactions but vehicle titling will be unavailable Dec. 8-10.

Also, some local license offices will be closed on Dec. 8 and it’s advised you check ahead before visiting in person.

All systems should be up and running statewide on Monday, Dec. 11 but post-transition delays are expected.

“ALDOR is working to make the transition as smooth as possible for local licensing officials, motor vehicle dealers, designated agents, and the public, but it is reasonable to expect that there may be delays when the system goes live on Dec. 11,” ALDOR said in a statement. “We ask for patience and understanding as everyone continues to learn and adapt to the new system.”
