Manti Te’o reveals Notre Dame intimidated by Alabama, jokes at girlfriend hoax; AJ, Ha Ha react
Manti Te’o revealed recently his Notre Dame was flat out intimidated by the Alabama Crimson Tide before the two teams stepped on the field for the BCS championship in January 2013.
For those that need the refresher, Eddie Lacy, AJ McCarron and the then-No. 2 Crimson Tide rolled top-ranked Notre Dame 42-14 for the BCS championship, locking up a second straight national title and third in four years.
According to former Notre Dame linebacker, who has joined the NFL Network’s revamped “Good Morning Football” lineup, the game was over before it started.
Te’o told how the Irish was the home team and came out into the tunnel prior to the start of the game but had to wait before the “visiting team” walked out first.
He was one of the captains and was out front. The Irish was loud and hyped.
“Alabama’s locker room door opens, and they start running out,” he explains. “I do remember this very vividly. My soon-to-be teammate (with the Chargers) DJ Fluker (6-5, 340) and Chance Warmack (6-2, 323) coming running out of the locker room with their jerseys up. Their bellies out, and they had their ‘4s’ up (four fingers on each hand). DJ going by saying, ‘Womp, womp.’
“And I vividly remember the silence behind me, and I kinda glanced at my teammates behind me and the eyes on them. They were so large. I knew at that point, ‘Alright this is gonna be a long day.’”
Lacy, the game’s offensive MVP, ran for one touchdown and caught a pass for another in the final minute of the opening half, to cap a 28-0 lead. He finished with 140 yards on 20 carries.
McCarron completed 20 of 28 passes for four touchdowns and 264 yards.
“To my guys’ credit, they never flinched,” Te’o said. “But when we played that Alabama team in 2013, there was a difference with those Bama boys.”
It was rough ending to Te’o’s college career, which will always be remembered for the linebacker being catfished. It was revealed Te’o got duped into a relationship with who he thought was a woman named “Lennay Kekua.” Kekua, of course, turned out to be a Te’o family acquaintance – Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, and when it all got revealed to the public, the former linebacker called it “painful and humiliating.”
He made light of the drama, which you can see below.
