Man with gun shot by Homewood police responding to ‘suspicious person’ call

A man was shot by Homewood police early Saturday.

Officers were dispatched at 2:51 a.m. to a report of a suspicious person in the 1800 block of Parkside Circle in west Homewood, said Sgt. Carr.

The responding officer encountered the suspect, who was armed with a gun. The officer fired on the suspect, Carr said, injuring him.

The man, identified only as an adult white male, was taken UAB Hospital. The extent of his injuries was not yet made available.

The officer, who was not injured, has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard police.

The investigation has been turned over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
