Man with ‘escalating psychological episodes’ chases family with knife, Daphne police say

A man who Daphne police say is experiencing “escalating psychological episodes” threatened members of his family with a knife before engaging in a two-hour standoff with police.

About 4 p.m. Thursday, Daphne officers responded to a home on Spectacular Bid Loop in the Jubilee Farms subdivision, where 57-year-old Ronald Mixon was threatening and chasing family members, who were ultimately able to escape the home without injury.

The Daphne Police Department Special Response Team was dispatched to the scene and set up operations outside the home, with local traffic cut off during the standoff.

After about two hours, Mixon finally surrendered peacefully. He was taken to Thomas Hospital in Fairhope for evaluation and remained there as of Friday morning. He faces four misdemeanor counts of domestic violence.

“Police have responded to this residence several times in the past to address Mixon’s escalating psychological episodes,” Daphne police Capt. Reginald Ardis said in a release.
