Man who shot girlfriend as children watched found guilty by Mobile jury
A Mobile County man who shot his then-girlfriend in front of her children and threatened the children by pointing the gun at them has been found guilty of two counts of domestic violence, according to the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office.
According to court records and the D.A.’s office, Tyrone Williams had been drinking all night when he arrived at his girlfriend’s home last Sept. 4. Williams kicked in the front door and shot her with a .45 caliber pistol while her three children looked on.
Court records also show Williams threatened at least two of the children by pointing the gun at them.
The woman suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting, but survived and testified during the trial which began Wednesday and concluded with the guilty verdict Thursday.
“Committing a crime of this nature, especially in front of children, is atrocious,” said Jennifer Susman, Mobile County’s chief assistant district attorney. “Hearing these types of cases can be challenging and we thank the jury for their commitment to finding the truth.”
Because Williams has prior felony domestic violence convictions in another state (unspecified by the district attorney’s office), he is facing either life in prison or life in prison without possibility of parole.
Sentencing is set for March 13. Williams’ conviction was the first of 2024 in Mobile County.
