Man shot to death, woman injured during argument at Birmingham home

An argument inside a south Birmingham home led to shots fired, killing a man and wounding a woman.

Police on Monday identified the victim as James Leon Craig. He was 40.

The shooting happened at 2:31 a.m. Sunday at a house in the 10 block of 17th Court South. That location is in south Titusville.

Birmingham police arrived to find both victims wounded.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service took the injured to UAB Hospital, where Craig was officially pronounced dead Sunday night.

The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe a domestic argument led to the double shooting.

Police said there were multiple people at the home and they all remained on the scene and were interviewed by detectives.

One person is detained.

Craig is Birmingham’s third homicide of the year. In all of Jefferson County, there have been six homicides so far in 2025.
