Man shot over $20 rides bicycle to Brighton police station for help; suspect flees on his own bike

A man rode his bicycle to the Brighton Police Department seeking help after he was shot midday Wednesday.

Just after noon, the victim showed up at police headquarters with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The dispatcher called Assistant Fire Chief Kenneth Hooten who responded to the scene to treat the victim. The bullet entered and exited the man’s leg, and he is expected to be OK.

Hooten, also a police lieutenant, then took over the criminal investigation.

He said it appears an argument over $20 broke out between the suspect and the victim in the 3900 block of Main Street.

After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene also on a bicycle. Hooten said no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call Brighton police at 205-425-8934.
