Man shot dead while driving near Five Points West in Birmingham
Authorities are on the scene of a deadly shooting on Birmingham’s west side.
The shooting happened shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday near Five Points West.
According to police, the victim – believed to be in his mid-20s – was driving when a suspect on foot fired into the vehicle.
The victim struck several other vehicles before his car crashed through a fence and came to a stop in front of the small apartment building in the 2500 block of Warrior Road.
He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The victim is Birmingham’s 97th homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and seven others have been ruled justifiable.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 138 homicides, including the 97 in Birmingham.
