Man shot dead in north Birmingham street; son in custody
An argument between a father and son turned deadly in north Birmingham.
North Precinct officers were dispatched just before 3 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a person shot in the 3800 block of Fourth Street West.
That is in the city’s Hooper City community.
When they arrived, they found the victim unresponsive in the street. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Officer De’Rell Freeman said the preliminary investigation indicates a father and son got into a dispute at a home several blocks away from where the victim was found.
The argument continued down the street where the fatal shots were fired near the Hooper City Convenience Store.
Freeman said the nature of the argument has not yet been confirmed.
The son was taken into custody on the city’s east side and is undergoing questioning at police headquarters.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, is the city’s 43rd homicide this year.
