Man shot by Muscle Shoals police has died, officers on leave

A man shot by a Muscle Shoals police officer Sunday night has died.

Colbert County Coroner Justin Gasque said the shooting victim, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Helen Keller Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Alabama Department of Forensics will conduct an autopsy.

Muscle Shoals police announced that an officer shot a person after officers were called to Tuxedo Avenue Sunday night.

It was not clear what the nature of the call was, or what led police to fire.

“As protocol, The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) was called to the scene and the investigation was turned over to their agency,” the department stated.

“The Officers involved are on Administrative Leave per protocol. More information will be provided as it becomes available per ALEA.”

Further information is expected to be released by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
