Man serving life for deadly stabbing at a barbecue dies in Alabama prison
A 66-year-old state inmate serving life in prison for a deadly stabbing at a south Alabama barbecue has died.
Anthony Trotter was convicted in 2009 of murder in the death of 31-year-old Raymond DeAngelo Cochran, who was killed during a barbecue on Delaware Street in downtown Mobile in 2007.
Trotter claimed self-defense, and from the witness stand told jurors that Cochran attacked him and was beating and stomping him when he struck out with a knife. Despite his claims, the jury convicted him.
Trotter was serving his time at William Donaldson Correctional Facility in western Jefferson County.
Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Matt Angelo said Tuesday that Trotter was found unresponsive in the prison infirmary he was being treated for multiple significant health issues. He was pronounced dead Monday afternoon.
An autopsy is scheduled for today. Angelo said there were no signs of trauma or foul play.
