Man seriously injured in Birmingham domestic shooting; woman detained

A man is hospitalized and a woman in jail following a weekend domestic shooting in Birmingham.

South Precinct officers were dispatched Sunday to the 400 block of Theta Avenue on a report of person shot.

When they arrived, they found the victim inside the residence suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim, whose name has not been publicly released, was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said a woman was taken into custody at the scene.

The 41-year-old is being held in the Birmingham City Jail on a 48-Hour felony hold extension for first-degree domestic violence. No formal charges have yet been filed pending the ongoing investigation.
