Man seriously injured in ambush shooting, theft of Dodge Hellcat outside Tarrant home
A man was shot and seriously injured in a predawn shooting in Tarrant.
Officers were dispatched about 4 a.m. Saturday to a report of a person shot at a home on Etowah Street.
Chief Wendell Major said the victim was returning to his home when he was ambushed in an apparent robbery.
A witness told investigators she was at the home when she was awakened by gunfire.
She heard the garage door open, found the wounded victim at the entrance of the garage, and pulled him inside to safety. She then called 911.
The victim told her someone shot him while stealing his Dodge Hellcat.
Major said a large amount of cash was recovered near the victim. The stolen Hellcat was recovered about two blocks away.
The chief said the victim had only lived in the neighborhood for about eight months.
“We want to assure residents that our department is working diligently to gather evidence and identify those responsible,” Major said. “Our thoughts are with the victim as he fights to recover from this senseless act of violence.”
Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
“Even the smallest detail can assist in solving this case,” the chief said, “and bring justice to the victim and his family.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Tarrant police at 205-849-2811 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
