Man pleads guilty to decapitation murder of victim found on fire in vacant Birmingham building
The suspect in the decapitation murder of a man found in a burning vacant Birmingham building has pleaded guilty to the slaying.
Jason Dwayne Adams, 43, entered his guilty plea Monday in the 2020 killing of 34-year-old Maxim Voronetsky. His trial was set to begin Monday.
Jefferson County Circuit Judge Shanta Craig Owens sentenced Adams to 28 years in prison.
Unrelated charges of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, possession of burglary tools, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and promoting prison contraband were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Voronetsky was found decapitated and set on fire shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 10, 2020.
The discovery was made in the 800 block of Second Avenue North after 911 received calls of smoke coming from the building.
Voronetsky had been fatally stabbed.
Adams had just been released from the Jefferson County Jail three days before Voronetsky’s death on unrelated charges.
Both men were transients and had lengthy criminal histories for property and drug crimes.
