Man on scooter critically injured in Birmingham hit-and-run

A man riding a scooter was critically injured in a hit-and-run Wednesday afternoon in northern Birmingham.

Police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded after 3 p.m. to 28th Street and Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North on a report of a pedestrian struck.

BFRS Battalion Chief Clay Hendon said the man was unresponsive when first responders arrived on the scene. He was taken to UAB Hospital.

The victim’s scooter was found in the intersection, next to a skid mark.

According to police radio communications, the motorist fled the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
