Man not wearing seatbelt killed in wreck on I-59 near Tuscaloosa

A Pickens County man died Sunday following a single-vehicle wreck on I-59 late Saturday, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports.

According to information released Sunday by ALEA, 22-year-old Emmanuel Martinez of Gordo was driving a 1996 GMC Sierra that left the road, struck a ditch and then hit a tree. Martinez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was critically injured. He was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment, but was pronounced dead on Sunday.

According to ALEA, the crash took place near mile marker 79, about three miles north of Tuscaloosa in Tuscaloosa County. Troopers are investigating.
