Man locks self in bathroom with child when sleeping Alabama woman finds him in her home
A Decatur man is facing multiple charges after police say he broke into a woman’s house, grabbed her child and ran into the home’s bathroom until authorities arrived.
Melvin Nickson Jr., 41, has been charged with first degree kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and criminal mischief.
According to court documents, the incident happened at a home on Lamon Drive in Trinity Wednesday morning.
A woman told authorities she woke up Wednesday to find Nickson inside her house.
When she began “panicking in fear,” he grabbed her child and ran to the nearest bathroom and shut the door, locking it. She then contacted police, a report stated.
When an officer arrived, he talked to Nickson until the man opened the bathroom door and the child ran to the mother.
Nickson was then taken into custody. Authorities said they later discovered a gate to the residence was broken.
He is being held in the Morgan County Jail without bond awaiting a hearing.
