Man killed in Thanksgiving Day domestic shooting in Etowah County; suspect is a juvenile, sheriff says

A domestic dispute on Thanksgiving Day left one man dead.

Just after 10 a.m. Thursday, Etowah County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a domestic shooting in the 2000 block of Jackson Trail, said Sheriff Jonathon Horton.

When they arrived, they found 49-year-old Andrew Cornelius Weldon had been shot.

Deputies attempted life-saving measures, but Weldon was pronounced dead on the scene.

Horton said the suspect is a juvenile whose name is being withheld at this time.

The investigation is ongoing by sheriff’s investigators and the Jacksonville State University Center for Applied Forensics.

The case will be presented to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office for any charges.
