Man killed in Lauderdale County crash after trying to elude trooper

A Tennessee man was killed in a Friday evening crash after attempting to elude an Alabama state trooper, authorities said.

Christian W. Hatchett, 49, of Loretto, Tenn., was killed at approximately 6:32 p.m. on Friday when his car left the roadway and overturned, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on Lauderdale 33, about eight miles north of Killen, in Lauderdale County.

ALEA said Hatchett was attempting to elude a trooper with the state highway patrol division before the crash occurred. Hatchett was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The agency has not said why it was attempting to pull Hatchett over Friday evening. The incident remains under investigation.
