Man killed in crash on stolen motorcycle on I-65 now identified
Authorities have identified a man they say was driving a stolen motorcycle when he lost control of the bike on Interstate 65 in northern Jefferson County and was killed earlier this week.
Charles Rogers Daugherty, 32, died Monday night. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office released his identity on Thursday.
The crash happened at 12:30 p.m. Monday on I-65 northbound in the Gardendale area.
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Daugherty was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was then struck by an oncoming vehicle.
He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:38 p.m.
Yates said the motorcycle was found to be stolen, and the driver had no form of identification.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation.
