Man kicks in door, dies when Alabama homeowner opens fire, Limestone sheriff says
A north Alabama homeowner killed a man who kicked a door open and entered a house early Saturday morning, Limestone County Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin said.
Deputies answered a call of a burglary in progress in the 17000 block of Morris Road in Elkmont, the sheriff’s office said. The call came in at 4:20 a.m.
The homeowners said someone violently trying to break in woke them up. The individual kicked the door in before deputies could arrive and was hit with gunfire from the homeowner. The man retreated outside where he died, the sheriff’s office said.
The deceased man has been identified by investigators as Christopher Jason Hovis, 44, of Hartselle.
The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary results indicate a justified shooting, according to the sheriff’s office. There are no charges at this time.
