An investigation is underway after a man was shot to death early Saturday in Anniston.

Police were dispatched at 5 a.m. to the 1500 block of East 11th Street on a shooting call, said Lt. Tim Suits.

They arrived to find a man dead inside. He has been identified James Delaneley Johnson, of Anniston.

Investigators identified the suspect as Derrick Jerome Mathews, also of Anniston. He was taken into custody later Saturday morning.

Suits said Johnson and Mathews got into an altercation which led to the gunfire. No additional information was released.

Mathews is being held in the Calhoun County Jail.
