Man jailed on capital murder charge in fatal shooting of Montgomery woman

A man has been charged with capital murder and attempted murder charges in connection with a Montgomery shooting last month that left one woman dead and another injured, police said Thursday.

Jaquerrius Jordan, 20, of Montgomery, was taken into custody Thursday and is being held in the Montgomery County jail without bail in connection with the May 26 shooting death of 40-year-old Montgomery resident Shayla Jones, said Maj. Saba Coleman.

Police and fire medics were dispatched at 3:45 p.m. May 26 to a report of a person shot in the 900 block of South Union Street.

Jones was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The second woman sustained a non-life-threatening injury. She, too, was hospitalized, said Coleman.
