Man in custody after firing at Mobile police during standoff
A man with previous convictions, including attempted murder, is in custody again after a standoff with Mobile police early Monday morning during which he fired at officers, according to the Mobile Police Department.
About 1:13 a.m. Monday, officers attempted to execute a warrant at the Randolph Street home of 43-year-old Clarence White.
White had outstanding warrants for domestic violence, interfering with a domestic violence emergency call, attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment and felon in possession of a firearm.
White, however, refused to open the door, communicating with officers through a window before grabbing a firearm and firing multiple shots at police, according to the MPD.
No one was injured in the incident and, after a SWAT team arrived, police were able to negotiate with White and he surrendered.
In addition to the outstanding warrants, White is now charged with attempted murder and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In 2006, White was sentenced to nearly 20 years in state prison for attempted murder and other charges. It’s unclear when he was released.
A request for information from the Alabama Department of Corrections was not immediately answered Monday.
