Man identified in accidental shooting in downtown Hunstville, police say gun fired as child handled it
Police have identified the man who died after being accidentally shot while driving in downtown Huntsville on Monday afternoon.
According to the Huntsville Police Department, the man was Christopher Keunta Hatcher, 24. The accident occurred on the 100 block of Jefferson Street, not far from the courthouse square, at about 12:30 p.m.
The department provided additional information about how the shooting occurred.
At the time there was a woman and two children in the car with Hatcher. According to the department, evidence indicates one of the children was handling a gun while in the car and it discharged striking Hatcher.
He was taken to Huntsville Hospital for his injuries but eventually died.
Due to the evidence no charges will be filed in the case, the department said.
