Man found slain in same Birmingham house where his cousin was killed 4 years ago
A man was found slain Tuesday morning inside his north Birmingham home, the same house where his cousin was killed several years ago.
Birmingham police officers were called to the residence in the 4200 block of Fairmont Way just before 8:30 a.m. on a report of a person down, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
A community member had gone to check on the homeowner and found him unresponsive.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. His name has not been released but he was 57 years old.
Fitzgerald said investigators aren’t sure if the victim was stabbed or shot, but said he had visible injures. Detectives saw evidence of a homicide, he said.
Multiple family members were on the scene, visibly distraught over the man’s death.
No arrests have been made.
Today’s victim was among multiple people who were asleep in the house in April 2019 when 58-year-old William “Billy” Morris was fatally shot while he was asleep on the couch.
The 2019 killing happened during a drive-by shooting.
The victim is Birmingham’s 10th homicide this year. Of those, one has been ruled justifiable and therefore not deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 12 homicides, including the 10 in Birmingham.
Anyone with information is asked to call Birmingham homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
