Man found shot to death inside burning Birmingham house in May now identified
A man found slain inside a Birmingham home in May has now been identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the victim as Rodney Maurice Walker Jr. He was 25 and lived in Cottondale.
On Monday, May 22, Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service and the city’s North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 4000 Block of Old Lewisburg Road on report of a house fire.
They arrived on the scene to find the house engulfed in flames.
Once the blaze was extinguished, firefighters found the unresponsive victim inside. Walker was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:20 p.m.
A person died Monday night in a house fire in north Birmingham, fire officials said.
Police officials quickly said the fire was deemed suspicious, which was confirmed by the autopsy results.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Walker had been shot prior to the blaze.
Yates said Walker was identified through DNA analysis.
According to his obituary, Walker attended Holt High School and went on to attend the University of Alabama.
No arrests have been announced.
