The death of a man found this morning in Sheffield is being investigated as a homicide.

The Colbert County Coroner’s Office confirmed the body of a man was found on West Montgomery Avenue at about 5 a.m.

Officers responded to reports of an unconscious person and discovered a man shot to death.

The body is being transported to Huntsville to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
