An investigation is underway after a man was found shot, and later died, on a Fairfield street.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were called at 11:53 p.m. Saturday to a report of a person down, said Deputy Chief David Agee.

Deputies arrived to find onlookers trying to help the injured man. They told authorities they saw a vehicle quickly leaving the area and then found the victim wounded.

Medics attempted life-saving treatment, but the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

Agee said detectives are speaking with witnesses and reviewing video from the area.
