Man found dead in street after at least 9 rounds fired in Birmingham neighborhood
A man was found shot to death early Saturday on a west Birmingham street.
Just before 3 a.m., West Precinct officers responded to a Shot Spotter alert of gunfire at Avenue W and 18th Street in Ensley. White they were en route, the call was updated to report a man lying in the roadway.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said when police arrrived, they found the victim wounded and unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.
Wade said Shot Spotter registered about nine rounds.
Authorities have not yet been able to identify the victim, and no one reported seeing the shooting happen.
“Details are limited,” Wade said.
The victim is Birmingham’s 119th confirmed homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency, and eight others have been ruled justifiable.
In all of Jefferson County there have been 165 homicides, including the 119 in Birmingham.
