Man found dead from gunshot wound next to vehicle in Birmingham’s New Hill community
A man was found dead from a gunshot wound on Wenonah Road in Birmingham’s New Hill community late Saturday morning.
Birmingham police received a call about 11:15 a.m. of a person down near Carroll Street, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
When they arrived, they found a young adult male on the ground outside of the driver’s side of a vehicle.
Patrol officers summoned homicide investigators to the scene, as well as the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
“From the evidence we observed, we believe this may have been a self-inflicted wound,’’ Fitzgerald said.
Though the death appears to be a suicide, detectives are going to investigate the death as a homicide until authorities can prove otherwise.
