Man fatally shot at Alabaster gas station not an employee or customer, police say
Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a shooting at an Alabaster gas station over the weekend.
Alabaster police on Wednesday identified the man as Ricardo Pastrana Perez. He was 45 and lived in Columbiana.
Few details have been released surrounding the fatal shooting, but Det. Andrew Rowan said Perez did not work at the store and was not a customer at the time of the homicide.
The shooting happened at 11:45 p.m. Saturday at the Shell just off Interstate 65.
Alabaster police on Monday issued a press release saying officers responded to the shooting scene and arrived to find two people there, one of whom had been shot
Fire medics provided treatment, but Perez was pronounced dead.
Chief Curtis Rigney said in Monday’s press release that a review of physical evidence, witness statements and video evidence indicates the fatal shooting was in self-defense.
The shooter’s identity has not been released.
The case will presented to a Shelby County grand jury for indictment consideration.
