Man, ex-wife arrested after child sexual abuse investigation in south Alabama

A man and his ex-wife were arrested following an investigation into the sexual abuse of a 9-year-old child in south Alabama.

Andalusia police began investigating the possible sexual abuse of the 9-year-old earlier this month.

The probe led to the arrests of Carmen Ray Ammons, 64, and his ex-wife, Shelby Marie Rushing, Sgt. Al McGraw with Andalusia police told WSFA.

Ammons was charged with sexual abuse of a child less than 12, sodomy and two counts of possession of child pornography.

Rushing was charged with sodomy and production of obscene matter containing visual depiction of a person under 17 years of age involved in obscene acts.

Ammons is being held in the Covington County jail on $300,000 bond while Rushing is being held on $400,000.

Rushing allegedly confessed to her role in the crimes, McGraw said.
