Man dies days after crash on I-65 in Shelby County

A 36-year-old Chilton County man died Friday, three days after being injured in a wreck on Interstate 65.

Reymon Antonio Figueroa-Hernandez of Jemison was critically injured when his 2008 Honda Accord was hit by 1998 Toyota Tacoma, according to state troopers.

The crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 65 in Calera in Shelby County.

Figueroa-Hernandez was taken to the hospital at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The other driver, Ashley M. Friday, 49, of Clanton, was also injured and taken to UAB, troopers said in a news release today.

Figueroa-Hernandez was pronounced dead in the hospital on Friday, according to the release.

Troopers continue to investigate.
