An investigation is underway after a man was found shot to death on a Bessemer roadway.

The victim was found wounded late Sunday in the 500 block of First Street North, according to police and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:09 a.m. on Monday.

Authorities have not yet been able to identify the victim, but said he was an adult Black male.

The man is Bessemer’s seventh homicide this year. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 151 homicides, including the seven in Bessemer.
