Man convicted of murder killed in weekend stabbing at Donaldson Correctional Facility

A 33-year-old state prison inmate was killed during an assault Sunday in William Donaldson Correctional Facility.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Cedric Lavoris Watts. He was 33.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the inmate sustained sharp force injuries during an assault that happened at 10:09 a.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:15 a.m.

No additional details have been released.

Watts was serving a 20-year-old sentence for murder out of Calhoun County.
