Man convicted of murder escapes from Alabama prison
A search is underway for a man convicted of murder who escaped from a state prison Monday morning.
Jordan Andrew Thomas, 30, escaped from Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore County about 11 a.m. Details of his escape have not yet been made public.
Thomas is serving a life sentence for the 2012 death of Dennis Johnson.
He was first convicted in Montgomery County in 2014 and sentenced to 75 years in prison, but that conviction was dismissed because of incomplete jury charges. He was retried again in 2019, court records show, and sentenced to life in prison.
Thomas is a Black male, 5-feet, 8-inches tall and weighing 120 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
He was last known to be wearing brown pants and a brown shirt.
Thomas has multiple tattoos.
