Man convicted of murder back in custody 1 week after Alabama prison escape
A man convicted of murder was recaptured Monday morning, a week after he escaped from an Alabama prison.
Jordan Andrew Thomas, 30, was taken back into custody about 6 a.m. by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Alabama Department of Corrections Law Enforcement Services Division, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Montgomery Police Department.
Thomas, who escaped from Staton Correctional Facility on Aug. 7, was arrested in the 7200 block of Troy Highway in Montgomery.
Thomas is serving a life sentence for the 2012 death of Dennis Johnson.
He was first convicted in Montgomery County in 2014 and sentenced to 75 years in prison, but that conviction was dismissed because of incomplete jury charges. He was retried again in 2019, court records show, and sentenced to life in prison.
Thomas now faces a new charge of first-degree escape in Elmore County. He was taken to Kilby Correctional Facility for processing.
ADOC officials have not said how Thomas escaped.
