Man convicted in stabbing during argument outside 2020 Legion Field election polling site
A 53-year-old man has been convicted in the stabbing of another man outside the Legion Field polling place on Election Day 2020.
Herman Hall Jr. was initially charged with attempted murder in the Nov. 3, 2020, attack on the Rev. Lorenzo Hines. A Jefferson County jury found him guilty on the lesser charge of first-degree assault.
Birmingham’s North Precinct officers responded to the Graymont Avenue facility at 4:24 p.m. that Tuesday on a report of a person stabbed.
Police at the time said a dispute erupted between the two men. That dispute escalated into Hines being stabbed in the stomach and the leg.
One person was stabbed during an argument Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, at Legion Field.
Legion Field was one of the area’s largest polling sites on that day, with music and food. Authorities said at the time there was no indication the argument was linked to any voting issue.
Hines was taken to the hospital and survived the assault.
Hall’s trial took place last week before Jefferson County Circuit Judge Kandice Pickett.
The case was prosecuted by deputy district attorneys Jason Wilson and Tyerra Henderson. Hall was represented by lawyer Scott Morro.
Hall testified in his own defense and claimed he acted in self-defense when he stabbed the unarmed victim.
Hall will be sentenced in November.
