Man collapses, dies in east Birmingham shed after being shot during an argument
A midday shooting in an east Birmingham neighborhood on Friday left one man dead.
Just before 12:30 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a person shot in the 8300 block of Fourth Avenue North.
When they arrived, the found the victim inside a shed behind an abandoned house. That property is adjacent to East Lake Park.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced the man dead on the scene, His identity has not yet been released.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said the victim was in the neighborhood to visit someone at a home in the 8200 block of Fourth Avenue North.
The person he went to visit had another visitor and a verbal altercation ensued between the victim and the other visitor.
The suspect fired at least several shots. Police found shell casings in the roadway.

The wounded man ran just over a block before collapsing in the shed. A bystander called 911.
Wade said she did not yet know the nature of the argument.
The victim is the city’s 129th homicide this year.
Of those, nine have been ruled justifiable and two others happened in previous years, but the victims died in 2024.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 163 homicides, including the 129 in Birmingham.
