Man charged with DUI-vehicular manslaughter in death of 22-year-old in Florida Panhandle
A man with a lengthy history of drug arrests in the Florida Panhandle is now charged with DUI/vehicular manslaughter in the death of a 22-year-old man near Milton, Fla., over the weekend.
The Santa Rosa County (Fla.) Jail docket shows 49-year-old Christopher Shane Ammons of Milton is being held under $250,000 bond, charged with DUI/manslaughter causing death.
Ammons was reportedly turning left along Munson Highway about 10 a.m. Saturday when it struck a sedan driven by the 22-year-old victim, according to WJHG. The collision caused the sedan to flip and leave the roadway. The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.
Three passengers in the sedan were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to the report.
According to jail records, Ammons has multiple prior arrests for possession of controlled substances and violating his probation. He was arrested in Santa Rosa County on various charges in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
