Man charged with capital murder in Leeds shooting that wounded his wife, killed her boyfriend

A suspect has been charged in a double shooting in Leeds that critically wounded his wife and killed her boyfriend.

Charles Richard Bryant, 40, is charged with capital murder in the Wednesday death of 25-year-old Luis Enrique Herrera-Valenciana.

The charge is capital because the killing happened during a burglary. Police said Bryant kicked in the door to the mobile home before opening fire.

He is also charged with attempted murder of his wife. The status of their marriage was not immediately available.

Police responded just before 1 p.m. Wednesday to a mobile home in the 700 block of Morgan Street.

Herrera-Valenciana was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:28 p.m.

Chief Paul Irwin said a female victim was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Bryant was taken into custody at the scene. He is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
