Man charged in attempted abduction of 4-year-old at Fairfield gas station
A west Jefferson County man is behind bars, accused of trying kidnap a young child from a Fairfield gas station.
Jimmy Cone, 55, is charged with child abuse maltreat and first-degree kidnapping.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Wednesday to Marathon on Aaron Aronov Drive on a report of an attempted abduction of a 4-year-old, said spokesman Henry Irby.
The young victim was checked out by Fairfield Fire and Rescue.
Irby said Cone tried to forcefully take the victim from the mother. The mother was able to immediately gain control of her child, and the suspect left the store.
The suspect did not know the victim.
Irby said deputies received a description of the suspect. Cone was taken into custody within two blocks of the gas station.
Deputies received a description of the suspect and quickly located him within 2 blocks of the scene and took him into custody.
Cone was booked into the Jefferson County Jail shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday. He remains held on bonds totaling $45,000.
