Man arrested in brutal Auburn fight caught on video that sent man, woman to hospital
A 22-year-old man has been charged in a weekend fight in the parking lot of an apartment complex that was captured on video and widely circulated on social media.
D’Andre Frederick Hartwell is charged with second-degree felony assault. He was arrested by Auburn police on Tuesday and booked into the Lee County Jail with bond set at $25,000.
Hartwell, police said, was identified as the “offender” in the Sunday morning fight that recorded by bystanders.
The video shows two males fighting on the ground. Hartwell was on top of another male, repeatedly punching him in the head area.
A female is standing close by and then tries to intervene, at which point Hartwell picks her up and flips her to the ground.
Both victims appeared in the video to be unconscious.
The charging document against Hartwell lists one victim, who is identified only by initials.
Police officials said Tuesday more charges are expected.
Police on Monday said they responded in Sunday’s early-morning hours to the apartment complex in the 700 block of West Magnolia Avenue on a report of an assault.
“Responding officers located two victims who sustained non-life-threatening injuries,’’ according to the department’s news release.
“Both victims were transported to area hospitals where they were treated for their injuries and released.”
“The circumstances surrounding the altercation indicate that this is an isolated incident, and that all parties involved were acquainted prior to the incident,’’ the initial release said.
