Man allegedly shoots at Gulf Shores police, shoots himself in the hand during chase
A man is currently in custody after running from and shooting in the direction of officers, according to the Gulf Shores Police Department.
The incident occurred Sunday at approximately 2:06 a.m. when officers encountered a parked van they deemed to be suspicious on Gulf Shores Parkway.
The man inside the vehicle, Buddy B. Snell, had a gun, according to the department, and he was asked to exit the van. However, Snell, who is from Tennessee, refused and began to flee in his vehicle.
After entering the City of Foley, Snell stopped at the 100 Block of McKenzie Street and started to flee on foot.
As he was running away, the department claimed Snell allegedly fired shots in the direction of chasing officers and the officers did not shoot back.
Snell was eventually apprehended and transported to a hospital due to shooting himself in the hand. No officers were injured in the chase.
Snell faces charges of obstructing governmental operations, eluding and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
