Man accused of robbing Birmingham bank of $10,000 nabbed within 1 hour of holdup
A Fairfield man previously convicted in two robberies is now accused of robbing a Birmingham bank of $10,000.
Geron Scott, 30, is charged with third-degree robbery in a holdup at Chase Bank on Crossplex Boulevard.
Police said Scott walked into the bank about 3:30 p.m. Monday and handed the teller a note demanding money. He fled with $10.000, according to charging documents.
Birmingham Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center provided information to officers that aided them in capturing the suspect in Fairfield within one hour of robbery, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Patrol officers also recovered the stolen cash.
After warrants were obtained, Scott was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 3:07 p.m. Tuesday and released at 9:46 p.m. after posting $15,000 bond.
Scott pleaded guilty in 2014 to two different robberies of individuals.
In one case, he took $300 from a woman and in another he robbed a man of his keys. A gun was used in both of the previous robberies.
Scott was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 3 ½ years to serve.
