Man accidentally shot himself to death in car with woman and 2 kids, Huntsville police say
The Huntsville Police Department suspects that a fatal shooting in Huntsville on Monday was likely an accident.
According to a press release from the City of Huntsville, the shooting occurred on the 100 block of Jefferson Street. Police responded just after 12:30 p.m. and found a red sedan in a parking lot.
A man was discovered inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Huntsville Hospital but died from his injuries, the release said.
There was also a woman and two children in the vehicle at the time of the shooting but they were unharmed.
According to the release, they were all questioned by investigators.
“Crime Scene investigators recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting,” the release said. “Based on interviews and evidence collected at the scene, HPD’s Major Crimes Unit believes the shooting was accidental.”
The incident is still being investigated by Huntsville police.
